Festina featured on CHORantine Podcast!
During the Covid-19 pandemic, music making has been difficult, to say the least. Festina has been fortunate to have had the flexibility, determination, and resources to be able to accomplish socially distant recording sessions to provide high-quality choral music to viewers throughout Massachusetts and beyond. This was especially important during Holy Week, the most significant week of the church year.
Festina Tenor Eric Christopher Perry, who serves as Director of Choirs at Colby College and Artistic Director of Renaissance Men, generously highlighted Festina several times on his clever, insightful podcast, CHORantine. Perry offered the following commentary, highlighting the origin of the podcast and the socially-distant recording session with our ensemble:
“CHORantine was initially born as an educational supplement for my students, to keep them connected to the choral/vocal arts (and to each other) in an entertaining, amusing way. Designed like a PRX short, CHORantine is meant to be a lighthearted distraction from the isolation and despair of the pandemic, using public domain or free access music samples of all genres for content.
As COVID-19 carried through Holy Week, Festina’s recorded offerings were not only elegantly executed and made for great audio for the show, but they also opened the door for more thoughtful questions and inspired conversation in our daily topics. It also introduced another avenue for the show; namely, ingenious ways that people are still coming together to make music in any way imaginable. Through sharing the fruits of this important labour, I hope this encourages my students and other listeners alike, as it certainly has enlivened my spirits and sense of rediscovery.”
Perry discusses his experience recording with Festina on this episode of his podcast.
